The carved lattice on a colonial Mexican building and the mashrabiya of Moorish architecture. The same filtered light. The same geometry. Two cultures that have never met — but speak the same craft language.
Each rug is hand-knotted in the M'rirt region of Morocco's Atlas Mountains, using 100% natural wool. One knot at a time. Over several weeks. Washed and dried in the Moroccan sun.
I'm writing this from my London living room on Valentine's Day, curled up with a hot water bottle. My birthday was spent in San Agustinillo, a beach village so quiet the main event is the sunset. I journaled every day until my pen ran out. Some weeks, that's enough.
From the hum and density of Mexico City, I landed somewhere that moves deliberately. Oaxaca doesn't rush, and it turns out, neither could my designs. I scrapped everything and started again.
Mexico is a place I'm convinced has invented colour. I arrived with no plans, no lists. Just a vague trust that the city would meet me halfway. A week later, I had started sketching a rug collection.
